Dancing is good exercise on its own-in fact any exercise you enjoy is the best exercise.
And if you keep exercising for 5 hours you're going to use a significant number of calories. And 400 calories an hour seems reasonable to me.

My step counts when I go out dancing are hilariously large. And once you get to my age, you'll notice that even if you wear comfy shoes out, you'll want to elevate your feet once you're back home!

Boogying to house music is one of my favorite ways to burn loads of calories.
-I wish they played disco more.
-It's basically a cheat where you get a workout and enjoy what you're doing.-Jnbee

dancing is my main
"Dancing is my main form of exercise :)
It has to feel fun for me. I'm not at a point where I can grind out running on a treadmill or something for the sake of burning calories. That feels like a boot camp, while dancing feels like joy.

In two hours and fifteen minutes my tracker says I burned over 900 calories, did 12k steps with an average heart rate of 128 bpm.
I couldn't imagine doing any other type of cardio for that long, but the combo of fun music and diverse movement made it so fun I couldn't stop. I also felt it in my whole body.

Dancing is also one of the most therapeutic things you can do! It's a somatic exercise that helps with emotional regulation. :)

Dancing is so freeing I don't even care that I 'suck' at it.
Everyone should dance like nobody's watching.

100% Everytime you move you're crushing it compared to everyone sitting still on the sofa. Also, there are so many other things like swimming, climbing, hoola hooping +++that many people don't try out and they might miss out on finding activities they're passionate about.
My body didn't start getting fit until I started insisting on doing it my way, which is hugely motivated by fun and not just disiplin (sic).

just jumping in to say...
Just jumping in to say that it helps even if you don't learn choreography or spend an hour at it. I find just having music on makes me move around more...even in my chair while working. Wiggle around a bit in the kitchen while you're cooking. Just being more active in general helps, so why not do it to music?
